Becoming Muslim

The word “Muslim” means one who submits to the will of God, regardless of their race, nationality or ethnic background. Becoming a Muslim is a simple and easy process that requires no pre-requisites. One may convert alone in privacy, or he/she may do so in the presence of others.

If anyone has a real desire to be a Muslim and has full conviction and strong belief that Islam is the true religion of God, then, all one needs to do is pronounce the “Shahadah”, the testimony of faith, without further delay. The “Shahadah” is the first and most important of the five pillars of Islam.

With the pronunciation of this testimony, or “Shahadah”, with sincere belief and conviction, one enters the family of Islam. By becoming a Muslim, a person’s previous sins are forgiven and it is the beginning of new life of piety and righteousness. It does not matter how many sins have been committed prior to testimony. Our Creator is All-Forgiving and All-Merciful.

The testimony is quite simple and it amounts to pronouncing with conviction and full understanding the following:

La ilah illa Allah, Muhammad Rasoolu Allah.

The meaning of which is:

There is no God, except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Once this is done, a person joins the family of Islam and becomes a Muslim. The testimony can be done alone, but it is much better to be done with an adviser. You are welcome to contact us and we will do our best to assist.

By joining the family of Islam, one does not have to change their name. Often a person feels that they have to do this, but it is only necessary if the name has somehow a negative meaning or there is a wish to have a Muslim name. Many choose the latter to signify them having a new start in life and being part of the greater Muslim family.
